Appointments & Scheduling
Q: How do I schedule an appointment?
A: The quickest way is to use our inquiry form or email us at admin@fitwfood.com or call 443.355.7021. Our team will help match you with the best dietitian.
Q: What should I expect at my first appointment?
A: Your initial appointment is all about you. We take a supportive, no-pressure approach so you feel comfortable and heard from the very beginning.
Here’s what the session typically looks like:
Review of Your Intake Forms:
Before your appointment, you’ll complete some brief intake paperwork. During the session, your dietitian will review this with you to better understand your health history, eating habits, lifestyle, goals, and any relevant medical conditions or diagnoses.
Open Conversation About Your Goals:
Whether you’re hoping to improve energy, navigate a medical condition, fuel your workouts, heal your relationship with food, or support your family’s health, this is your time to share what matters most. If you’re not sure what your goals are yet, that’s okay — we’ll help you explore them together.
Nutrition & Lifestyle Assessment
We’ll dive deeper into your typical eating patterns, daily routines, preferences, movement, stress, sleep, and more. This holistic view helps us tailor a realistic and sustainable plan just for you.
Collaborative Plan & Next Steps
You’ll leave the session with:
- Key takeaways about what’s going on and why
- An initial action plan with realistic and supportive next steps
- Optional resources like handouts, meal/snack ideas, or journal prompts
There’s no one-size-fits-all advice here — everything is personalized and flexible, designed to fit into your real life.
Q: How long are sessions?
A: The length will vary depending on your needs and insurance benefits. Initial appointments are typically 60-75 minutes. Follow-up sessions range from 30–45 minutes. They may be shorter or longer.
Q: Do I need a referral?
A: No referral is needed unless your insurance plan specifically requires one. We recommend checking with your provider in advance.
Insurance & Payments
Q: Do you accept insurance?
A: Yes! We are in-network with CareFirst/BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, and Aetna. Most plans cover 100% of preventive services with a dietitian. We always encourage clients to call their insurance company and confirm their benefits. Learn what to ask here.
Q: What if I don’t have coverage?
A: We offer self-pay rates and superbills for out-of-network reimbursement. The initial appointment, up to 75 minutes, is $180. Follow ups, up to 45 minutes, are $90. An additional $45 is charged per every 15 minutes after.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: To protect our dietitians and clients’ time, we ask for at least 24 hours notice for cancellations and reschedules. Missed appointments are also subject to the fee. You will be charged the cost of the appointment out of pocket, as missed appointments cannot be submitted to insurance. We understand that life happens, so we aim to be flexible when possible.
Working With a Dietitian
Q: Is there a difference in the quality of care between in-person and virtual appointments?
A: No — the quality of care is the same whether you meet with your dietitian in-person or virtually.
At Fit with Food, we provide the same level of personalized support, attention, and collaboration in both settings. Virtual sessions are not a “lesser” version of care — they’re simply a different format that many clients find more convenient and flexible.
Here’s what stays the same:
One-on-one attention and personalized care tailored to your goals and lifestyle In-depth nutrition counseling and coaching, including habit-building strategies Collaborative goal setting and follow-ups to track your progress Access to resources and tools (handouts, meal strategies, journal prompts, etc.)
Benefits of virtual appointments:
- More flexible scheduling around your busy life
- Meet from the comfort of your home or office — no commute needed
- Easier for parents, athletes, or those with mobility or transportation barriers
- Ability to continue care even when life gets busy (travel, illness, weather)
Some clients prefer in-person visits, while others love the convenience of virtual — and many choose a mix of both. The choice is yours, and we’re here to support you either way.
Q: What kinds of things can you help with?
A: We work with clients on:
- Sports nutrition & performance
- PCOS, fertility & hormone health
- Family and pediatric nutrition
- Digestive concerns (IBS, celiac, etc.)
- Weight management
- Intuitive eating
- Chronic conditions (diabetes, high cholesterol, etc.)
Q: Do you give meal plans?
A: Not in the way you might expect — and here’s why.
At Fit with Food, we believe in sustainable, flexible nutrition that fits your life — not rigid rules that feel like another diet.
Here’s why we don’t give out strict or one-size-fits-all meal plans:
- They’re rarely sustainable. Most meal plans are too rigid to maintain long-term, and can leave you feeling overwhelmed, restricted, or like you’ve “failed” if you don’t follow them perfectly.
- They don’t teach you how to eat in real life. Life doesn’t follow a script — and neither does your appetite, schedule, or access to food. Learning how to make choices based on your hunger, needs, and preferences is more empowering than following someone else’s list.
- They often miss the “why.” Knowing what to eat isn’t always the hard part — it’s figuring out why certain habits or patterns are happening in the first place. That’s where we come in.
What we provide instead:
- Flexible structure that works for you (e.g., meal and snack ideas, timing guidance, portion suggestions)
- Strategies tailored to your goals — whether that’s sports performance, navigating a medical condition, digestive support, intuitive eating, family meals, or something else
- Ongoing support to help you build habits and confidence over time
- Custom tools like food journals, sample meal outlines, or recipe inspiration — without the pressure of “sticking to the plan”
We’re here to help you build a healthy relationship with food — one that feels nourishing, balanced, and adaptable, not prescriptive.
Q: Do you weigh clients or take body measurements?
A: We do not take biometrics in-session. If medically necessary, we’ll recommend labs or follow-ups with your doctor—and are happy to review those results with you to guide your care.
